PLASU SUG Elections 2026/2027: Key Dates & Rules Released!

The students of the Plateau State University (PLASU) are hereby informed of the guidelines and important dates for SUG Election 2026.

GUIDELINES AND IMPORTANT DATES FOR S.U.G ELECTION, 2026

PLASU releases official SUG Election guidelines and schedule, 2026/2027

​Sale of forms commences on 29th April, 2026 and will close on 6th May, 2026.

​Nomination FORMS are obtainable from the ELCOM Secretary, Yakubu Ezra Simon (08166528356) upon providing proof of payment made into ELCOM treasury.

​As stipulated in section 39(4) of the students’ handbook (pp83)

i. No student who is or shall be in his or her final year of study in any academic discipline in the university shall be permitted to contest election into any executive office of the union.

ii. All 100 level students are not eligible to contest.

iii. Students’ Union leadership shall be opened to only students with qualities of good leadership and past record of good behaviors and also the undertaken to abide by code of conducts as provided in the constitution.

iv. All students contesting election in the union shall be at least 18 years of age in keeping with the directives contained in the Federal Government white paper of the Abisoye Commission of Inquiry of May 1986 on the modification introduced into the Students Union Constitution.

v. Only registered members of each hostel in context shall vote or be voted for at all hostel government election.

vi. Students are required to present their SUG receipt for accreditation and voting proper for all elections.

​Aspirants for the positions of President, Secretary General, Financial Secretary and Treasurer must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 with no carryover.

​Aspirants for other positions must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50, with no more than two (2) carryovers.

​Aspirants for the positions of President, Secretary General, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Hostel Governors and Senators shall be in their 300 Level.

​Other positions are open to students in both 200 and 300 Level.

​Screening of aspirants will be on 6th May, 2025 at the Directorate of Students Affairs.

Presidential Debate is scheduled for 19th May, 2026 at SSA by 3:00pm Prompt, while Manifesto is on the 20th May, 2026 at Aluta Ground (Students Centre) by 2:00pm Prompt.

Campaigns end by 11:30pm on 20th May, 2025

Election will hold on 21st and 22nd May, 2026 for executive and parliament respectively at the various polling units and other designated venues from 8:00am – 1:00pm.

Aspirants are to provide only ONE AGENT per polling unit.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES DURING SCREENING

A copy of completed nomination form dully signed by the H.O.D of the Contestant with the required Nominees.

A dully signed letter of undertaken by the aspirant to abide by code of conducts as provided in the constitution of the union.

The Photocopy of those who signed the Aspirant’s Nomination form shall be attached with the nomination form during submission.

FOR THE SALES OF FORMS;

The electoral committee for the conduct of S.U.G election for 2026/2027 academic session by this notice, we bring to the knowledge of all aspirants that sale of forms commences on Wednesday the 29th April, 2026 and will close on Wednesday 6th May, 2026.

Prescribe fees for the nomination forms are as specified below:

​1. Executives

​a. President: ₦ 30,000

​b. Vice president: ₦ 25,000

​c. Secretary General: ₦ 25,000

​d. Assistant secretary: ₦ 15,000

​e. Financial secretary: ₦ 25,000

​f. Treasurer: ₦ 25,000

​g. Welfare secretary: ₦ 20,000

​h. Director of socials: ₦ 20,000

​i. Director of sport: ₦ 20,000

​j. Sales Secretary: ₦ 20,000

​j. Public Relation Officer: ₦ 15,000

​2. The Hostel Government Executive Council

​a. The Governor: ₦ 10,000

​b. The secretary general: ₦ 5,000

​c. Welfare secretary: ₦ 5,000

​d. Treasurer: ₦ 5,000

​e. Public Relations Officer: ₦ 5,000

​3. Legislators

​Senator: ₦ 20,000

​The nomination form shall be made available to aspirant upon providing proof of payment to the ELCOM Secretary, Yakubu Ezra Simon (08166528356).

Screening of aspirants will be on Wednesday the 6th May, 2026 at the Directorate of Students Affairs.

Election will hold on 21st and 22nd May, 2026 for executive and parliament respectively at the 6 different Polling Units from 8:00am – 1:00pm.

i. The forms are obtainable at student affair division

ii. All Payments MUST be transferred into the Bank Account Below:
