Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has officially discontinued its Top-Up and Higher National Diploma (HND) Conversion Programme in compliance with directives from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The institution’s decision follows regulatory guidelines issued by the NUC concerning the operation of conversion and top-up degree programmes in Nigerian universities.

With the discontinuation, the university will no longer admit candidates into the programme, which previously served as an academic pathway for HND holders and other applicants seeking to upgrade their qualifications to bachelor’s degrees.

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has officially discontinued all admissions into its Top-Up Degree and HND Conversion programmes with immediate effect as of May 8, 2026.

This decision was made to comply with new directives from the National Universities Commission (NUC), which has ordered the immediate termination of such conversion programs across Nigerian universities.

Key details from the announcement include:

Mandatory JAMB Admission: All future undergraduate admissions must now be conducted exclusively through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Winding Down: The university will no longer admit new students into the Top-Up track, effectively ending the pathway for HND holders to upgrade to a B.Sc. through this specific program.

Public Warning: Management has warned the public against engaging with individuals or groups offering admissions into these discontinued programs.

Similar actions have been taken by other institutions, such as Kwara State University (KWASU), which also announced the discontinuation of its conversion programme starting from the 2025/2026 academic session in response to the same NUC directive.
